To Set Up Stanford's VPN on the IPAD:

  1. Tap the Settings icon.
  2. Tap General.
  3. Tap Network.
  4. Tap VPN.
  5. Tap Add VPN Configuration.
  6. Tap IPSec.
  7. Use the description field on this screen to label the configuration with a unique identifier; for example, 'Stanford Public VPN.'  Then enter the following information:
    Server: su-vpn.stanford.edu
    Account: your SUNet ID
    Password: your SUNet ID password
    Group Name: Stanford (Note the capital S)
    Secret: (call 5-HELP and ask for the VPN shared secret key)
  8. Tap the Save button in the upper-right corner of the screen to return to the VPN selection screen.  Your new configuration should be selected by default; if more than one configuration exists, you may need to tap the new entry for Stanford to select it. A check-mark displays next to the active configuration.

You can activate the VPN on this screen by tapping the ON/OFF switch, or you can return to the Home screen (by pressing the Home button), tap Settings, and then tap the VPN ON/OFF switch on the main Settings screen.  If the VPN connection is successful you will receive a welcome message:

   Stanford Public VPN Service.  Unauthorized access is prohibited.

You can return to the Settings screen and tap the switch again to disable the VPN.
