Paging Services

How can I improve the performance of my pager?

To improve paging performance, make sure that your pager is in good working order and has a strong battery. Set your paging status appropriately, and bring your pager to the Pager Admin Office (room HC009) if you often don't receive pages that were sent to you.

Here are some suggestions for getting the best performance from your paging service:

How reliable is the paging service at Stanford Hospital?

Paging technology uses radio waves to transmit information from an antenna to your pager. Although generally reliable, the technology is not perfect.

If you don't respond in a reasonable timeframe, the caller should page you again.

Can I use USA Mobility pagers or pagers from other service providers?

Some staff who live or work in areas not reached by the Stanford system may rent USA Mobility pagers from the Pager Admin Office. Although this service is more costly and pages tend to take a bit longer to be transmitted, USA Mobility provides a wider coverage area. Keep in mind, however, that Stanford has much less control over the reliability of the USA Mobility service.

What should someone paging me should know about sending pages?

If someone pages you and they don't get a response, they should page you again. If you are using your pager for critical applications, make sure there is an alternate way to reach you.
